ABOUT THIS SERVICE

Your Personal Sanctuary, Beautifully Crafted

A primary bathroom renovation is one of the highest-return projects a DMV homeowner can make — and one of the most visible to buyers. Matos Construction designs and builds high-end bathroom remodels across Northern Virginia and Maryland, working with homeowners in McLean, Bethesda, Great Falls, Potomac, and Chevy Chase who want the craftsmanship to match the home.

Leo Matos leads every bathroom project personally. We handle custom tile and stonework, vanity millwork, shower builds, and coordination of licensed plumbing and electrical subcontractors. The tile work, the trim details, the built-in niches and shelving — that's all Leo's crew, not a subcontracted tile team who's never been on the job before.

OUR PROCESS

How a Bathroom Renovation Works With Matos Construction

  1. Site visit and scope definition

Leo reviews the existing bathroom, measures the space, and documents existing plumbing and electrical locations before any pricing is provided.

  2. Proposal and material selection

You receive a line-item written proposal. Tile, fixtures, and vanity selections are finalized before demolition begins — no material substitutions mid-project.

  3. Demolition and rough-in

Existing fixtures and tile are removed. Licensed plumbing and electrical subcontractors complete any rough-in work required before walls close.

  4. Tile, millwork, and installation

Tile work, custom vanity millwork, built-in niches, and the finish carpentry details that define the space go in next, with Leo checking the work as it goes.

  5. Fixtures, hardware, and punch list

Plumbing fixtures, mirrors, lighting, and hardware are installed last. Leo walks the completed bathroom with you before the project closes.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Bathroom Remodeling FAQs

  1. How long does a bathroom remodel take in Northern Virginia or Maryland?

A focused primary bathroom renovation — tile, fixtures, vanity, no layout changes — typically takes 3–5 weeks. A full gut renovation with layout changes, a new shower build, and custom millwork runs 6–10 weeks. Tile and fixture lead times are the biggest variable; we finalize all material selections before demolition starts so nothing holds up the schedule mid-project.

  2. Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel in Virginia or Maryland?

Any work involving moving or adding plumbing, electrical panel changes, or structural modifications requires a permit in Virginia and Maryland jurisdictions. Cosmetic work — replacing fixtures, retiling a shower without moving drains, swapping a vanity — typically does not. Matos Construction handles permit applications for all permitted scopes and schedules the required inspections.

  3. What does a primary bathroom remodel cost in McLean, Bethesda, or Great Falls?

A focused refresh and a full primary suite gut renovation are very different jobs, so the honest answer is that it depends on the scope and the finish level you want. Leo walks the bathroom, measures, and puts together a detailed line-item proposal before any work begins, so you are comparing a real number rather than a guess. The estimate is free.

  4. Can you renovate multiple bathrooms at the same time?

Yes — and it's often more efficient to do so. When multiple bathrooms are on the same project scope, we can sequence the work to minimize disruption, share material orders, and keep the overall project timeline tighter than running two separate projects back to back. Many of our whole-home renovation clients include two or three bathrooms in the scope.
